Veneers are thin porcelain shells cemented to the fronts of teeth. Many know they can enhance your smile and cover up stained, chipped, or unsightly teeth. However, they can also cover physical abnormalities with your teeth, such as teeth that are too small, misshapen teeth, or large gaps between your teeth (diastema). Veneers are a popular choice among people who have otherwise healthy teeth but also have these conditions.

The question: “Does coffee stain veneers?” is one of the most frequently asked questions by people considering whether to have porcelain veneers applied in Chiang Mai at GrandDent Dental Clinic. We’ll cover that question and more in this blog. There are a few common-sense precautions you can practice to keep your veneers looking clean and white. They include:

Use Caution with Dark or Acidic Foods and Beverages

Dark or acidic foods and beverages, including coffee and tea, can stain composite veneers but not stain porcelain veneer long-term if you don’t take certain precautions. Porcelain veneers are exceedingly stain-resistant and durable compared to natural teeth.

If you’re a heavy coffee drinker and wear composite veneers for years, eventually, they can become dull, stained and tarnished. <that’s why we usually recommend for porcelain veneer for longterm stain-resistant>

Don’t Smoke or Use Tobacco

All forms of tobacco can stain teeth. The nicotine in tobacco is the source of the stains. The sooner you stop using tobacco by smoking or chewing it, the longer your composite veneers will stay white and bright. <not porcelain>

Brush Your Teeth and Floss Daily

Coffee can stain the man’s veneers.

Flossing is as important as brushing. Stains can begin between teeth and look unsightly the more they spread. Brushing and flossing three times a day is recommended for heavy coffee, tea, and cola drinkers.

Drink Beverages Through a Straw

The best way to avoid stains on your veneers is to bypass them altogether. Get into the habit of drinking iced coffee, tea, and cola from a straw.

Visit the Dentist for Regular Cleanings

Your dentists can use specialized polishes and toothpaste to help with heavily stained veneers.

Eat Hard and Crunchy Foods Carefully

Veneers are tough and durable and bonded to your teeth with strong cement. However, some hard and crunchy foods can cause damage if you’re not careful. Hard nuts and seeds can become stuck between the front teeth and chip the edges of your veneers. Try to avoid biting nuts or seeds with your front teeth as much as possible. Hard and sticky candy should be avoided if you have veneers, as it can cause veneers to fracture if you bite into them. Crisp fruits and vegetables, such as apples or carrots, are okay to eat if you have porcelain veneers, but they should be avoided if your veneers are temporary or made from composite material.

Alcohol and Veneers

While alcohol can be enjoyed by people wearing veneers, there are a couple of things to be aware of that can affect your veneers if you drink often.

Gum Recession

Your veneers were applied to cover the entire front surface of your teeth. However, excessive alcohol use can cause gum recession, creating an obvious gap between the gum tissue and the edge of the veneer.

Veneer Application Process

It’s good to have an understanding of the application process when deciding if veneers are right for you. The process begins with a digital scan of your teeth to serve as a benchmark throughout the application. The teeth are reduced in size by grinding or trimming to allow for the thickness of the veneer and to provide room between the teeth for flossing and cleaning.

The next step is to take impressions of your teeth. The technician creates the veneers using these impressions as a model to ensure a perfect fit.

When the veneers have been created, your dentist will check the shape, color, and opacity against your neighboring teeth to ensure they match perfectly. Then, they will prepare the surface of your teeth with acid, as mentioned above, cement the veneers to your teeth, and ensure your bite is unaffected.
